How do they keep the fairgrounds safe?
The grounds prohibit any weapons. All entrances to the fairgrounds are equipped with metal detectors and bags are subject to search. Security at the event is provided by a combination of Big E Security personnel and dedicated officers from the West Springfield Police Force. The Security office, located on Hampden Avenue, is open 24 hours a day from the Monday before Opening Day until the end of the Fair. The full services of the West Springfield Fire Department are also available 24 hours a day at the Fire Station on Hampden Avenue during the event.
For medical assistance, the First Aid Station and the Lost People Center (LPC) can be found near the Fire Station and staffed by compassionate professionals. If guests become separated from their group, they are encouraged to visit the LPC immediately. The LPC also provides a waiting area and an outdoor message board for postings and all lost and found items should be brought to this location.
